I get a lot of emails from folks who have a weight loss goal in their mind, and they want to know how long (or how many months) it will take them to get there using the NutriSystem diet. Examples are the young woman who is getting married in the fall and wants to lose 50 pounds. Or, the young mother who is going on a summer Caribbean vacation with her family and wants to look great in a bikini by losing 20 pounds. Both women are trying to gauge when they should get started to make sure that they reach their goals in time. I'll take a look at both scenarios in the following article. Hopefully, this will help you to determine an approximate monthly NutriSystem weight loss for you.
The Official Version Of "Typical" Monthly NutriSystem Weight Loss: The company doesn't really go in to how much you can expect to lose in a month, but they do tell you that most people lose 2 - 3 pounds per week. So, in a month's time, this is 8 - 12 pounds lost. This is not too bad. Over six months, this would be 48 -72 pounds. Over a year you'd lose 96 - 144. This is pretty significant, but maybe you don't have that much to lose or you don't want to be on the diet for that long. I honestly think that the 2-3 pound range can be achieved by mostly following the directions and not much else. If you can't reach this level, you're probably either cheating or doing something wrong. If you want to put in just a little more effort, you can probably move up to the next level (3 - 5 pounds per week and 12 - 20 pounds per month.)

What's Required To Lose More Weight Faster With NutriSystem: In order to know how to maximize your weight loss, you have to understand that in reality, NutriSystem is like a lot of low carb / high protein diets. The lessening of calories combined with the low amount of carbohydrates and the increase in fiber and protein revs your metabolism into fat burning mode (ketosis.) But, in order for this to happen, you have to keep your carbs low.
And, this is where some people go astray. The plan asks you to add in healthy fresh sides with every meal. They do educate you as to which options are lower on the glycemic scale. Many people don't pay much attention to this, but it can really mean the difference between 2 pounds or 5 for that week. For example, a side of kids type of yogurt is going to have far more carbs than plain yogurt or even low carb yogurt. And, a watermelon will not be as good a choice as a plum. You really don't have to guess about this because the company provides guidelines and free counseling. Any question that you might have is only a quick phone call or online chat away.
And, if you're willing to exercise even a little, you can have a bit more leeway with your sides (and if you're conscientious with both your sides and exercising too, then you're REALLY ahead of the game.) So, going back to my examples in the beginning of the article. Let's look at the bride. If she did the bear minimum and was a bit more generous on her sides, she'd probably lose the 50 pounds in around five months. But, if she were able to be a little more aggressive and get in the 3-5 range, she could cut this down to about 3 1/2 months.
And, the mom who just wanted to look great in a bikini and lose 20 pounds? Well, if she were very aggressive, she could theoretically accomplish this in a little over a month (but there would have to be very little cheating involved.) And, if she wanted to live a little with the carbs and relax on the exercise, she'd still only be at a month and a half to around two months or so.
